Trading
Buy flow, sell flow, order modes, order book basics, open orders, cancellations, slippage, partial fills, and claim links.
Trading uses the selected market, selected outcome, side, order mode, amount, price, and your wallet/account readiness. The app does not place an order until you complete the required wallet signature and submission flow.
Before placing an order
Read the market rules and confirm the exact event, market, outcome, side, amount, order mode, and displayed price. Check whether the market is still accepting orders and whether the order book has enough liquidity for the size you entered. Cancel the wallet prompt if the signature does not match the trade ticket.
Buy flow
- Open a market or event page.
- Select the exact market and outcome.
- Choose Buy.
- Pick an order mode: Market, All or nothing, Limit, or Good til Date when available.
- Enter the amount.
- Review estimated cost, estimated shares, price, and any warning.
- Sign only if the wallet prompt matches the order you intend.
Sell flow
- Open a market where you hold shares.
- Choose Sell or use a position action.
- Select the outcome and amount of shares.
- Review the expected price and value.
- Submit and sign the order if the details are correct.
See Selling for more detail.
Order modes
- Market: uses a Fill and Kill style order that fills what is available at marketable prices and cancels the unfilled remainder.
- All or nothing: uses a Fill or Kill style order that must fully fill immediately or cancel.
- Limit: rests at your chosen price until filled or cancelled.
- Good til Date: rests at your chosen price until a set expiration time.
Polymarket orders are limit orders under the hood. Market-style behavior comes from using a marketable limit price and immediate-or-cancel order type.
Order book, fills, and slippage
The order book shows bids and asks. Buying generally pays the lowest available asks. Selling generally receives the highest available bids. Large orders or thin liquidity can move the effective price, partially fill, or fail to fill.
If you see a message that an all-or-nothing order could not be fully filled, try Market, reduce size, or adjust your max price.
Open orders and cancellations
Open resting orders can appear on event pages and in Portfolio under the Open tab. If cancellation is supported for the order, use Cancel or Cancel all. Cancellation can require trading credentials and can take a short time to reflect in the order book.
After resolution
Once a market resolves, trading stops. Winning positions may become claimable or redeemable. See Claiming and Market Resolution.
