Selling

How selling before resolution works, how sell orders use bids, and why sell orders may not fill.

Selling lets you try to exit a position before the market resolves. You are selling shares to another trader through the order book.

Before selling

Check:

  • The exact market and outcome.
  • How many shares you have available.
  • The current bid and ask.
  • Whether the market is still open.
  • Whether your account needs approval, balance sync, or trading credentials.

Market-style sell

A market-style Sell tries to execute immediately against available bids. If there is not enough demand at acceptable prices, it may partially fill or fail. For All or nothing, it must fully fill immediately or cancel.

Limit sell

A Limit Sell lets you choose the minimum price you are willing to receive. If no buyer is willing to pay that price, your order can remain open until it fills, expires, or is cancelled.

Why a sell order may not fill

  • There are not enough bids.
  • Your limit price is above current demand.
  • The market is closed or no longer tradable.
  • The order book moved before submission.
  • The order was cancelled, expired, rejected, or delayed.
  • Your token approval, CLOB balance, or trading credential state needs attention.

Selling is not claiming

Selling before resolution trades with another market participant. Claiming after resolution redeems winning resolved shares. If a market is already resolved, use the claim/redeem path instead of trying to sell.
