Market Resolution
How market rules, resolution, disputes, closed states, and claimable winning positions work.
Resolution determines which outcome won. Read the rules before trading because the title is only a short version of the question. The rules define the source, deadline, and edge cases.
Before trading
Check:
- The market question.
- The exact individual market if the event has many markets.
- The resolution source.
- The end date or close time.
- Edge cases and additional context.
- Whether the market is open, closed, resolved, or in review.
Closed and resolved
Closed means trading has stopped or the market is no longer accepting orders. Resolved means an outcome has been determined. After resolution, winning shares can generally be redeemed and losing shares can become worthless.
Disputes and ambiguous outcomes
Polymarket uses an oracle-based resolution process. Some outcomes can be disputed, clarified, or delayed. If a market is in review, do not assume funds are immediately claimable. Wait for the app or official market state to show that claiming is available.
Claimable states
A claimable state depends on the market being resolved, the winning outcome, your position, and the wallet path used for the position. If the app asks you to reconnect, verify, or use an official fallback, follow the prompt carefully and review all wallet signatures.
Rules beat assumptions
Do not trade based only on the headline or social media interpretation. Open the event detail page, read Rules and Market Context, and decide whether the resolution criteria match what you intend to trade.
